The new Opel Astra OPC will be one of the first cars to make available a range of information on vehicle dynamics, which are displayed via an iPhone application. The data are pre-selected by the CAN-bus (Controller Area Network), or a communication system which unifies and connects the electronic control unit of the vehicle. Each owner of the new Astra OPC must then download from the App Store the OPC PowerApp and analyze the more than 60 information, including turbo boost pressure, throttle position, lateral acceleration and engine torque.
E ‘can also record lap times on track through the analysis of GPS data, from which you can also check the braking points, the velocities in the various sessions and lateral acceleration. For the most demanding drivers are given a sort of black box, directly connected via the CAN-bus operation in the factory or aftermarket. The module transmits data to the iPhone with a frequency of 30 Hertz (ie in real time) and for this reason turns the phone into an additional tool, from which it is possible to display information on the lateral acceleration and the over-and understeer, in addition to a bar graph, a line chart and a map.
The OPC PowerApp function on all iPhones since the third series, iPad, iPod Tourch 2. The Android version will be introduced at the beginning of 2013.
