Volvo XC90: confirmation for the new generation

The CEO of Volvo North America Doug Speck said that a new generation of the XC90 is currently under study. During an interview with Automotive News, the manager has in fact confirmed the need to offer new models for the U.S. market, with a target of 120,000 cars a year by 2020 against 60,000 in 2011. If the “hard core” sales will be supported by S60 and XC60 will however need a Full Size SUV like the XC90, vecchoi project of 10 years and in need of a replacement.

The new model, first denied and now again suggested using the new platform Scalable Platform Architecture (SPA) concept unveiled by the Universe and, therefore, could see the light only in a few years. Given the specific interest in this type of bodywork, it is possible that the XC90 is designed and developed only for the American market, even assuming a site of national production, so as to focus attention on the needs and tastes of U.S. customers.
